Plans for Lent 2015

Our daily prayer for Lent: (put on a card on the children's altar)
O Lord Jesus, I offer up to Thee my fasting and self-denial, to be united to Thy fasting and sufferings, for Thy glory, in gratitude for so many benefits received from Thee, in satisfaction for my sins and those of others, and to obtain Thy holy grace that I may overcome my sins and acquire the virtues which I need. Look upon me, O Jesus, in mercy. Amen.

Sermons for Lent:  Why Lent?  (The priests from Audio Sancto request that you might please pray three Hail Mary's for them after listening to a sermon.)

Our Lenten reading:  I'm going to read from Divine Intimacy.  I will read The Holy Man of Tours to the children.

Lenten Activities:
  • Lenten calendar - 2015 Lent Calendar printable from Joy{filled}family to put on bulletin board in A3 size.
  • Calendar to colour.  Lenten Calendar 2015 from Pondered in My Heart.  I have had one enlarged to A3 to put up on the fridge for the children to take turns colouring.  Nothing like a bit of 'I want to be the one to colour the calendar' competition to keep up enthusiasm rather than personal calendars which my children all seem to forget about after the first little while.
  • I'm thinking on one of the following: Lenten Sacrifice Beans (scroll down to see), or a Merciful Cross which we have done for a while now, or a wreath/crown of thorns which we have done but not in recent years.  I'll probably go for the merciful cross again because the thought of little beans all over the place and 'thorns' isn't appealing with two little ones.  We'll see though, I quite like the idea for the sacrifice beans in the above link.
  • Repent Lenten table display
  • Large wooden cross put up in the yard.
  • Almsgiving box
  • Wreath with purple ribbon for front door
  • Set up stations of the cross around house
  • For copywork, the Seven Penitential Psalms (scroll down for pdf) plus
  • Put up Lent pictures on our bulletin board.
  • 14 Stations of the Cross candles for Good Friday

  • Put up Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary posters.
  • Lent for Children, A Thought a Day to read to the children each day (put on lent table display)
  • Saint's of the Passion picture wall display.

  1. It's so nice how you centre your daily life around the Church's celebrations and fasts. I'm taking baby steps, but you inspire me that there's always more to learn and grow into.
