A Day at the Zoo 2013

This last week we have had DH's sister, her husband, and their two children over to visit from Jakarta, Indonesia.  The first place we took them to see was the Zoo.  It was a rather overcast day, but this seemed to work in our favour as it wasn't very busy.  It rained only a little just before we left.

First up, the Australian Pelicans.

DH relaxing while we spend quite some time
 looking at the Pelicans.

Okay, can we move on now?

Southern Cassowary and his chick.

My nephew, deep in thought.

These are not found in Western Australia, at least not anywhere near us.  Perhaps they could be seen up in the very northern parts of Western Australia.  I always wanted to see one when I was young, after reading 'The Silver Brumby' Series by Elyne Mitchell.

A Mertens Water Monitor ?

The Crew
Here's my lot, together with my sister-in-law and her two children on the right.

24 weeks pregnant
I can really feel this little baby now.  So lovely to feel little arms and legs.  A few of the children have been lucky enough to feel kicks.  Those who were patient enough.

Black-Winged Stilts

Surfing at 'Wave Rock'
The real Wave Rock is out near Hyden, quite far away.  So the 'fake' one at the Zoo had to do.

Old man kangaroo
Uncle with kangaroo.

A spot of lunch

My nephew, enjoying his lunch.

Okay, what's next?

Fun on the merry-go-round.
It was so wonderful watching the children on the Merry-go-round.  They just loved it!  The delight on their faces was precious.

Pretending to be statues

Going for a ride.

At the temple ruins.
A race to be first to the car.

Feeding time for the Pelicans, as we pass by to leave.

A final portrait of Aunty.

Time to go home.
